Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford have both failed to respond to Erik ten Hag's sacking by .

Ten Hag , having won just four games in all competitions this season. Their dreadful start to the current campaign follows an awful eighth-placed finish in the last year.

The duo are leading senior players at Old Trafford and they would have been expected to respond to the departure of their manager. Both have been active on social media within the past week.

Maguire had been stripped of the captain's armband by Ten Hag in the summer of 2023 and quickly fell down the pecking order. Rashford meanwhile had a number of run-ins with the former United boss.

Most notably, he was dropped following an unsanctioned night out in Belfast, which also led to a club fine. According to the , Rashford was among three stars in particular who let down Ten Hag and were partially responsible for his ousting.

Rashford has scored just once this season in the league, during a 3-0 romp at , and failed to register a single shot in his first three league games. Last year, the Englishman registered only seven league goals and three assists.

Casemiro and Antony have also been held up as players who did not perform to the standards expected of them. Fernandes was one of the few to consistently impress under Ten Hag.

The Portuguese midfielder released a statement on social media in the wake of the Dutchman's sacking, which read: "Thanks for everything, boss. I appreciate the trust and the moments we share together.

"I wish you all the best in the future. Even knowing the last period hasn't been great from all of us, I hope you fans can keep with you the good things the manager has done for our club."

United released a short statement to announce Ten Hag's departure. That read: "Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager. Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

"We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future. Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited."
