NFL star Travis Kelce and pop icon , watching the Yankees clinch a 5-2 victory in Game 1 of the 2024 ALCS.
Their celebration was noticeable when Yankees outfielder Juan Soto knocked one out of the park in the third inning. Despite Kelce's Ohio roots and having attended Cleveland Heights High School, he conspicuously avoided sporting Cleveland gear that evening.
Kelce, now a tight end, isn't a stranger to the pitcher's mound; he famously threw the inaugural pitch at a Guardians game last summer, albeit with less-than-perfect results Kelce's baseball loyalties have always been a bit of a tease.

Yahoo's Jordan Shusterman dug up some history, highlighting how Kelce has flirted with fandom for both the New York Yankees and the Cleveland team. He trawled back to 2010 when Kelce lamented over the Yankees' loss with a tweet: "and my #Yankees lost...smh hats off to the #rangers though, but I'm hurttin' tonight!!!"
Then a year later he cheered Cleveland's potential future ace Justin Masterson: "Master just might be the next Cy Young winner for the #Tribe... hopefully, we don't trade him away like the last two we had..." referencing Cleveland's habit of trading stars like Cliff Lee and C. C. Sabathia.
Confronted in June about his allegiance should the Guardians and the local Kansas City Royals find themselves opponents in the American League playoffs, Kelce retorted, "I've been to more playoff Cleveland Guardian games, those games are unbelievably electric," expressing his leaning towards the electric atmosphere at Cleveland games.
Kelce reminisced about his hometown's sporting spirit, saying, "Back in 2015, when the Royals won (the World Series), those games were every bit as electric. My hometown team, though, I'm still a huge Guards fan."
His teammate Patrick Mahomes has also shown love for Kansas City's baseball side, tweeting support for the Royals during their 2024 MLB postseason run. In a candid revelation from January 2024, Kelce shared his childhood dream: "I think I cried in [former Browns coach Rob] Chudzinski's face when I was getting drafted, to like, 'Please let me ------- play for Cleveland.'" He added, "It was like one of my dreams to play for the Browns," expressing his deep-rooted desire to represent Cleveland in sports.
However, he joked that his emotional plea might have backfired: "[Chudzinski] and coach Jon Embree, tight end coach down in Miami right now. I was crying in front of both, which is probably why they didn't draft me. 'This dude is way too soft. He's a mess right now.'"
Meanwhile, in baseball news, Soto's home run and Carlos Rodon's six innings of dominance led the New York Yankees to a 5-2 win, with the series set to continue at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night for Game 2.
