Bihar Election: How can you vote if you don't have your voter ID, have lost it, or are absent on voting day? To address this issue, the Election Commission has released a list of 12 alternative photo ID proofs.
The first phase of voting for the Bihar Assembly elections is taking place today, November 6th. The second phase is on November 11th. The election results will be declared on November 14th. The Model Code of Conduct is also in effect in the state. The term of the Bihar Legislative Assembly ends on November 22nd, 2025. Consequently, the Election Commission has announced the election schedule in due course.
Now that the elections are upon us, the most pressing question for voters is how to cast their vote if they don't have their voter ID, have forgotten it, have lost it, or are absent on voting day for some reason. However, the Election Commission has released a list of 12 alternative photo ID proofs. If you have any one of these documents and your name is on the voter list, you can vote even without a voter card. So, let's find out which 12 documents can prove your voter identity if you forget your voter card.
Don't have a voter card? Bring these 12 documents to the vote.
1. Passport - A valid passport with your photo and name.
2. Driving License - A driver's license recognized by the Government of India, with your photo.
3. Service ID Card for Government Employees - If you are employed by the Central or State Government, a public sector company, or a public limited company, a photo ID card issued by your company will be valid.
4. PAN Card - A Permanent Account Number card issued by the Income Tax Department.
5. Aadhaar Card - A card issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
6. Bank or Post Office Passbook - This should have your photo and be valid.
7. MNREGA Job Card - A job card issued under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
8. Health Insurance Smart Card - A card issued under any scheme of the Ministry of Labor or the Central Government.
9. Pension Card - This should have your photo and be certified.
10. NPR Smart Card - An identity card issued under the National Population Register (NPR).
11. Official ID Card issued by an MP or MLA - If you are a member of Parliament or Legislative Assembly, the official ID card you possess will be valid.
12. Photo ID Card issued by the Election Officer - If you have already applied and the officer has issued an identity card, that will also be valid.
