The UGC has issued a notification and issued an alert regarding the Institute of Management and Engineering, located in Kotla Mubarakpur, Delhi. The UGC stated that the Institute of Management and Engineering, located on the first floor of 1810/4, Kotla Mubarakpur, offers several degree courses and programs that violate the rules, regulations, and policies of the UGC Act, 1956. In its notification, the UGC has warned students that enrolling in such a "self-styled institution" could jeopardize their careers.
The UGC stated that the Institute of Management and Engineering, Kotla Mubarakpur, is neither recognized under Section 2(f) or Section 3 of the UGC Act nor authorized to confer degrees under Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956.
What are the UGC's regulations regarding degrees?
The UGC also outlined its regulations regarding the granting of degrees in the notification. The notification clarifies that only universities recognized by a Central, State, or Regional Act have the authority to confer degrees. It further adds that institutions deemed to be universities under Section 3 or institutions granted degrees by an Act of Parliament can also confer degrees.
The UGC stated in its notification that no person or authority shall confer any degree or declare itself entitled to confer a degree except as provided in sub-section (1) of the UGC Act.
