Google has introduced its new AI video generation model, Veo 3.1, which delivers cinematic, realistic, and enhanced storytelling in video generation. This new update, combined with the Flow filmmaking tool, will allow users to create professional-level videos. It directly competes with OpenAI's Sora 2.
Veo 3.1: Features like cinematic, realistic views
Veo 3.1, an advanced version of Veo 3 introduced at Google I/O 2025, now offers improved texture rendering and realistic visuals. The model better understands various story elements, such as character dialogue, motion, and cinematic framing, making videos more coherent and emotionally impactful. Users can now easily tell stories using text or image prompts.
New Features in the Flow Filmmaking Tool
Google has upgraded the Flow tool with the capabilities of Veo 3.1, enabling audio generation and multi-image features like Ingredients to Video and Scene Extension. Audio generation has now been extended to features like Ingredients to Video, which can turn multiple photos or characters into a seamless scene; Scene Extension, which continues an existing clip; and Frames to Video, which combines two photos into a fluid motion sequence.
Usage and Availability
Veo 3.1 and its Fast version, Veo 3.1 Fast, are now available on the Gemini app, Gemini API, and Vertex AI. These models support both horizontal (16:9) and vertical (9:16) video formats, providing convenient options for all types of video creation, from social media content to film prototypes. In the future, Flow tools will also add advanced features like object and character removal, further enhancing the video editing experience.
