WhatsApp New Feature: WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to talk to people who neither have a WhatsApp account nor the app installed. According to a report by WaBetaInfo, this feature is currently in the testing stage in Android beta version 2.25.22.13 and can be rolled out in the coming weeks.
How will the new guest chat feature work?
This feature will be named "Guest Chats", in which WhatsApp users will be able to start a direct chat with a non-user through an invite link. The special thing is that the receiver will neither need to install WhatsApp nor create an account. They will be able to access the chat through a secure web interface by clicking on the link, just like WhatsApp Web.
Privacy is also fully secure
WhatsApp claims that all messages in guest chats will be end-to-end encrypted so that only the sender and receiver will be able to see the messages. This feature will be completely based on WhatsApp's internal system, which will keep the experience smooth and reliable.
There will also be some limitations
However, there will also be some restrictions in guest chat:
You will not be able to share photos, videos or GIFs
There will be no option for voice and video messages
Calling facility will also not be available
This feature will be only for one-on-one chats, group chats will not be supported
What is WhatsApp's strategy?
WhatsApp probably wants to give non-users an easy way to try the app through this feature so that people can experience chatting without full signup. This can be a low-friction way to connect them to the world of WhatsApp.
When will this feature be available?
Currently the company is doing internal testing of this feature. No official launch date has been announced but it may be available to beta users in the coming months and then a public rollout is likely.
