If you frequently travel on national highways, here’s some great news for you. The government is set to offer another gift to middle-class families and car owners. The government is planning to introduce an annual toll pass. This pass will cost you just ₹3,000.
With this pass, you can travel on national highways without any interruptions for the entire year. What’s more, you will have the option for a lifetime pass as well. To avail of the lifetime pass, you will need to pay ₹30,000 in one go, and you can drive on national highways without paying toll for the next 15 years.
According to sources, the Ministry of Road Transport is seriously considering this proposal. The ministry is also contemplating changes in the toll rates per kilometer for private cars, which could bring some relief to highway users. The new pass will be linked to your FASTag, so you won’t need to buy a separate pass.
Benefits of the Annual Pass:Currently, only monthly passes are available. These passes are for people who pass through the same toll plaza daily. To get this pass, you will need to provide your address and a few other details. The monthly pass costs ₹340, meaning the total annual cost will be ₹4,080. A source mentioned that the ₹3,000 offer for the entire NH network is much lower than the money currently paid for free travel at toll plazas. This option could become quite popular.
Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari recently mentioned that his ministry is working on the plan to offer passes to car owners. Sources indicate that the ministry views this as a solution to several issues, including the growing discontent over toll plazas within city limits, toll gates located less than 60 kilometers apart, and violence at toll plazas.
