Citroen Basalt scores big in Bharat NCAP crash tests: Tata Curvv rival's performance detailed

Citroen ’s latest offering, the Basalt SUV-coupe , has undergone the Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) safety tests. This marks Citroen’s first vehicle to be tested under India’s crash safety program, and the Basalt’s performance has impressed with strong ratings for both adult and child occupant protection . The model achieved an overall rating of four stars.

The crash tests , conducted in August, evaluated the Basalt’s performance across different variants, including the You and Plus trims for the NA petrol trims, as well as the Plus and Max trims for the turbo-petrol trims. Both manual and automatic transmission options were included in the assessments.

Citroen Basalt crash tests: How it performed

In terms of adult occupant safety, the Basalt scored 26.19 points out of a possible 32, showcasing good protection for the head and neck during the frontal offset deformable barrier test. While the driver’s chest and upper legs were rated as ‘Marginal’ in protection, the passenger’s chest received an ‘Adequate’ rating, with other body parts offering better protection. In the side impact and pole impact tests, the Basalt performed well, receiving ‘Good’ ratings across the board.


For child occupant protection, the Basalt scored 35.90 points out of 49. The tests revealed that for the 18-month-old dummy, the front and side protection received a perfect score, while the 3-year-old dummy’s frontal impact score was slightly lower, though side protection remained strong.

With these safety scores, the Citroen Basalt is positioned as one of the safer options in its segment. It is priced between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 13.83 lakh, ex-showroom.
