Send Push
The Kerala police department has added a new, rugged member to their fleet, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny . A video shared on social media platform Instagram shows a Granite Grey Jimny stationed outside the Rajakkad police station in Idukki , a hilly region where the SUV’s off-roading capabilities can become handy.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny Alpha
This Jimny measures 3,985mm in length with a 2,590mm wheelbase, making it more spacious than its 3-door sibling which has been on sale overseas. The Jimny, in its fully-loaded Alpha trim, brings a host of features. It’s equipped with automatic LED headlamps, a 9.0-inch, infotainment system , automatic climate control , wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and cruise control besides other safety features like six airbags, ESP, and hill-hold assist are standard.

Under the hood, it’s powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder NA petrol engine delivering 105 hp and 134 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, and the vehicle comes with Maruti’s AllGrip Pro 4x4 system.

The police-modified version in the video can be seen with red and blue beacon lights mounted on the roof, and stickers identifying it as the property of the Rajakkad police. The Jimny for the Kerala police retains its stock alloy wheels and tyres.

Priced between Rs 12.74 lakh and Rs 14.79 lakh, ex-showroom, the Jimny has not quite gained the response the company would’ve expected. However, its ladder-frame chassis, lightweight body, and rugged 4x4 capabilities make it a worthy replacement to the iconic Maruti Gypsy , which was once a staple in police and military fleets.
