Upcoming Skoda Kylaq vs Tata Nexon vs Maruti Brezza: Engine, dimensions, specs compared

Skoda Auto India is all set to showcase the new Skoda Kylaq sub-compact SUV on November 6, 2024. The new SUV will be based on the brand’s MQB-A0-IN platform and will measure less than four metres in length. The Kylaq will go on sale officially in 2025 and will rival the Hyundai Venue , Kia Sonet , Tata Nexon , Maruti Suzuki Brezza and other sub-compact SUVs in the Indian market.

In this article, let’s compare the new Skoda Kylaq with the Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza with all available details.

Comparing the dimensions first, the Kylaq will be based on the brand’s MQB-A0-IN platform and will measure less than four metres in length. It measures 3,995 mm in length and has a 2,566 mm wheelbase with a ground clearance of 189 mm. The width and the height are yet to be revealed. The Maruti Brezza measures identical 3995 mm in length, 1790 mm in width, 1685 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2500 mm. The new Nexon measures 3995 mm in length, 1804 mm in width, 1620 in height and has 2498 mm of wheelbase. The length is the same, while the Kylaq has a 66 mm longer wheelbase than the Brezza and a 68 mm bigger wheelbase than the Nexon.

The new Nexon is offered in Smart, Smart+, Smart+ S, Pure, Pure S, Creative, Creative+, Creative+ S, Fearless, Fearless S and Fearless+ S. The ‘+’ option gets additional features whereas the S denotes the addition of the sunroof in each variant. The price starts from Rs 8 lakh and goes up to 15.5 lakh (both prices Ex-showroom). The Brezza gets LXI, VXI, ZXI and ZXI plus variants and prices range from 8.34 lakh to Rs 14.2 lakh (ex-showroom). The prices are expected to start from Rs 8 lakh for the entry-level trim and up to Rs 14 lakh for the top-of-the-line trim (both prices ex-showroom, expected).

In terms of features, Skoda has confirmed that the Kylaq will feature six-way adjustable front seats with a ventilation function, six airbags (as standard), a multi-collision-braking system and LED lighting. Other expected features include a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system which will likely be an 8.0-inch unit with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a semi-digital cluster, automatic climate control, single-pane electric sunroof, multiple airbags, auto headlamps with wipers, rear AC vents, cruise control, rear camera with sensors and more.


Talking about the features in Nexon, it gets a 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, connected car tech, 360-degree camera, a wireless charger, ventilated front seats, an air purifier, panoramic sunroof, cruise control, automatic headlamps with wipers, touch-based panel for HVAC controls and more.

The Maruti Brezza gets a 9-inch floating SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system with connected-car tech and Surround Sense premium sound system by Arkamys, paddle shifters (AT only), a TFT multi-info display for the instrument cluster, an electric sunroof, a head-up display, automatic climate control, ambient lighting, wireless charger and more.

The Skoda Kylaq will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo petrol engine with 115 hp of power and 178 nm of torque. Gearbox options will include a 6-speed torque converter and a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The Nexon is offered in two engine options - a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine which puts out 115 hp of power and 260 Nm of torque and comes paired either with a 6-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. Another engine is the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine which puts out 120 hp of power and 170 Nm of torque. The petrol engine gets four gearbox options - a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, AMT and a dual-clutch DCA automatic. The Nexon also gets CNG option with a turbo petrol engine.

The Brezza gets a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that comes with mild-hybrid tech. The engine produces 103 PS power and 137 Nm torque, and can be had with either a 5-speed manual gearbox, or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The Brezza also gets a CNG option with 5-speed manual gearbox option.
