Union Minister Jitendra Singh has strongly endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks on the Partition of India, stating that the division in 1947 was the outcome of political ambition between Jawaharlal Nehru and Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Speaking at the Rising Bharat Summit 2025, Jitendra Singh called Partition one of the greatest historical blunders and argued that there was no real public demand for it, only the personal aspirations of two political leaders.

Partition driven by leadership ambitions

Jitendra Singh claimed that the British capitalised on the egos of Nehru and Jinnah, who each wanted to lead the country. “You couldn’t have two Prime Ministers in one nation, so they divided it,” he said. According to Jitendra Singh, the average Muslim citizen did not seek Partition and was, in fact, against it. He framed the entire event as an elite political maneuver, rather than a grassroots movement. His statement closely aligned with Prime Minister Modi’s own remarks at the same summit, where Modi said that Partition was pushed by fundamentalist forces encouraged by some Congress leaders.

Appeasement vs. justice for all

Jitendra Singh used the opportunity to highlight the BJP’s ideology, stating that the party follows a clear principle of “appeasement to none, justice to all.” He pointed to the recently enacted Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, and earlier reforms like the Triple Talaq ban, as efforts to ensure justice without religious bias. “Why should we have a different policy for someone just because of their religion?” he asked, arguing that the government should serve those in need, regardless of faith.

He praised Prime Minister Modi for “rising above vote politics” and introducing a new kind of political culture that focuses on inclusivity and justice over electoral gain. Jitendra Singh reiterated that the BJP’s approach is not about targeting any one community, but about delivering fairness across society.

Jitendra Singh’s comments underline a growing narrative within the BJP to revisit historical events through a different lens, while also defending their legislative track record involving the Muslim community. His statements add weight to PM Modi’s broader message at the summit, which positioned the current administration as reformist, responsive, and above communal lines.
