Glenn Maxwell, one of Australia#39;s most dynamic and unforgettable one-day players, has announced his retirement from One Day Internationals, bringing an end to a 13-year ODI career.
Maxwell made his debut in 2012 and went on to play 149 ODIs, scoring nearly 4,000 runs. Speaking onThe Final Wordpodcast, the two-time ODI World Cup winner reflected on his decision:
I said to him right then and there, #39;I don#39;t think I#39;m going to make that#39;, he recalled.
Maxwell acknowledged it was time to make way for the next generation:
I think it#39;s time to start planning for people in my positionmdash;to give someone else a crack and a chance to make that spot their own ahead of the 2027 World Cup. Hopefully, they get enough of a lead-in to really succeed in that role.
