Nottinghamshire have signed Ishan Kishan for two Division One County Championship fixtures. The short-term contract was signed by Kishan, who comes in as a replacement of Kyle Verreynne. The South African will be away on national duty for a two-Test tour to Zimbabwe later in the month.
The left-handed Indian batter will be eligible for selection against Yorkshire and Somerset at Trent Bridge and Taunton for June 22 and June 29 fixtures, respectively.
"I'm feeling very excited to get my first taste of playing county cricket in England, and it will be a great chance to showcase my skills. I want to make sure I am the best cricketer I can be, and playing in English conditions will really help me to learn new skills. Trent Bridge is such a famous ground that is well-known in India and around the world, and I am really excited that I will be playing there," stated Kishan, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Nottinghamshire's head coach, Peter Moores, seemed equally excited for a 'hard-hitting middle-order batter' like Kishan to be a part of the squad.
"We want players to be themselves and to bring their own game, and something that especially excites me about Ishan is how keen he is to be involved in county cricket. He brings proven quality in his ball-striking as a hard-hitting middle-order batter, and he's keen to move his red-ball game forward, which I'm sure will make him hungry to perform," commented Moores.
Nottinghamshire are leading Division One seven games into the season. They are placed first with four wins in seven games, accumulating a total of 115 points. It could make for an interesting watch to see how the county utilises Kishan.
With this, Kishan will join a list of Indian cricketers in the championship this season. Tilak Varma has linked up with Hampshire on a brief basis, Ruturaj Gaikwad will be donning the Yorkshire jersey in the second-half of the English summer, and Yuzvendra Chahal is slated to return to Northamptonshire in the near future.
