India’s star athlete Neeraj Chopra reached a significant milestone at the 2025 Doha Diamond League by becoming the first Indian to surpass the 90-metre mark in international javelin. His powerful throw of 90.23 metres set new personal and national records, securing his place in the history of Indian athletics.
Although Chopra secured second place behind Germany’s Julian Weber, who threw an outstanding 91.06 metres, the achievement remained a historic moment for Indian sports. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with millions of proud Indians, congratulated Neeraj on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
"A spectacular feat! Congratulations to Neeraj Chopra for breaching the 90 m mark at Doha Diamond League 2025 and achieving his personal best throw. This is the outcome of his relentless dedication, discipline and passion. India is elated and proud. "
Neeraj responded with gratitude to the Prime Minister’s message:
Thank you shri @narendramodi ji for your kind words and encouragement. I hope to continue and give my best for the country always!
