Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Saturday criticised the Congress for objecting to the naming of the upcoming Tribhuvan Sahkari University (TSU). Speaking after laying the foundation stone of TSU at the Anand Agriculture University campus, Shah recounted resistance from Congress MPs when the bill for the university was introduced in Parliament.
"When I came up with the Bill, the Lok Sabha Speaker called me to his chamber and informed me that Congress had objections to the naming of TSU. I want to address their concerns-this university is named after Tribhuvandas Kishibhai Patel, a pioneer of India's cooperative movement and a key figure in the founding of Amul," Shah said.
Shah noted that Congress leaders questioning the naming were unaware that Patel was, in fact, a Congress member-not a BJP leader. "My party didn't even exist then," he remarked, referring to Patel's movement in 1946.
