Israel-Iran war: Air India to resume flight operations in parts of West Asia as airspaces gradually reopen

Send Push
Air India on Tuesday announced a phased resumption of its flight operations to and from the Middle East (West Asia), following partial reopenings of airspace in the region amid tensions between Israel and Iran.

In a statement, the airline said it would "progressively resume flights to the region starting today, with most operations to and from the Middle East resuming from June 25."

The move comes after days of suspended services due to heightened military activity and widespread airspace closures across West Asia.

Flights to Europe, which were also disrupted due to the ripple effects of the regional conflict, are now being reinstated in phases, it added.

Meanwhile, services to and from the East Coast of the U.S. and Canada are expected to restart at the "earliest opportunity," the airline said, without specifying exact dates.

“Some flights may experience delays or cancellations due to consequential impacts and extended re-routings/flight times, but we are committed to minimising disruptions and restoring our schedule integrity,” an Air India spokesperson said.

The airline stressed that it will continue to avoid airspaces deemed unsafe by international and national aviation authorities.

“The safety and security of our passengers, staff, and aircraft remain our top priority,” the spokesperson added.

The resumption plan follows a turbulent week in global aviation, triggered by escalating hostilities between Iran and Israel. Several international carriers, had suspended or diverted flights to avoid the conflict zone.

While de-escalation efforts appear to have taken root in some quarters, Israle and Iran continue to exchange fire, hours after a Trump-coordinated truce came into effect between the two nations.
