Heavy rainfall continues to batter Mumbai and surrounding areas amid the ongoing monsoon season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several districts in Maharashtra for Wednesday.
Mumbai Rains
According to the IMD, districts including Mumbai, Raigad, Thane, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Palghar have been placed under an orange alert, with predictions of moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the day. In Mumbai, the continuous downpour has led to significant waterlogging, prompting the Mumbai Traffic Police to shut down the Andheri Subway.

The IMD has forecast moderate to heavy showers for Raigad, Mumbai, Thane, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Palghar. Additionally, reports indicate that areas such as the Ghatkopar stretch are expected to receive consistent rainfall at least until 10 AM.
Looking ahead, the IMD has predicted more widespread rainfall across Maharashtra in the coming days. Districts such as Pune, Satara, and Raigad remain under alert for potential heavy showers.
Train delays, waterlogging disrupt daily life
As per updates from the mIndicator app, heavy rains have led to delays on Central and Harbour line trains, although services on the Western line remain unaffected for now. The Mumbai Traffic Police have closed both lanes of the Andheri Subway due to flooding.
"Due to 1-1.5 ft water logging, the Andheri Subway is closed for vehicular movement. Traffic is diverted via the Gokhale Bridge & Thackeray Bridge," stated the police in a notice shared on X.
The IMD has further predicted "heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan & Goa, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathawada till July 28." Light to moderate rain is also anticipated in other parts of western India during this period.
