Ram Charan was once beaten up with a police belt and here's why he could not do anything

Ram Charan, one of the most celebrated actors in the Telugu film industry, has always shared a close and respectful bond with his father, the legendary actor Chiranjeevi. Despite their strong relationship, Ram Charan once opened up about the only time his father had to discipline him—an incident that involved a police belt and left a lasting impression.

In a television interview, Ram Charan revealed that when he was just eight years old, he once overheard his driver and security personnel exchanging words he didn't fully understand. Curious about the meanings, he approached his uncle Naga Babu at home and asked for clarification. At the time, Chiranjeevi had just returned from a film shoot. On learning what Charan had picked up, Naga Babu informed Chiranjeevi, who then asked him to step outside.

Charan recalled that his grandfather had gifted a police belt to Chiranjeevi after his retirement. Using that very belt, Chiranjeevi punished Charan and explained to him that the words he had used were inappropriate and not to be spoken again. The experience had such an emotional impact that Charan avoided talking to Naga Babu for several days afterward.

The Quiet Persona of Chiranjeevi at Home

Describing his father's personality off-screen, Ram Charan highlighted how different Chiranjeevi is in real life. Despite his lively and humorous image in films, Charan said that at home, Chiranjeevi is serious and composed. While others might expect a comic presence, he rarely jokes around within the household. Instead, it is Naga Babu who often brings laughter to family gatherings with his sense of humor.

Charan also pointed out that he had never seen his father dance casually at home. Although Chiranjeevi might have performed a few steps to encourage his nephew, Allu Arjun (fondly called Bunny), he generally never takes the lead in such moments. According to Charan, this calm and disciplined nature reflects the values passed down from Chiranjeevi’s own parents.

Ram Charan also discussed how deeply his father values respect within the family, particularly towards women. He recounted an incident where Allu Arjun was once scolded and physically reprimanded by Chiranjeevi for arguing with his mother. Chiranjeevi firmly upholds a principle that no one in the family should raise their voice against women, especially mothers—a rule likely inherited from his strict upbringing under Charan’s grandfather.

Upasana’s Close Bond With Her Father-in-law

Charan shared insights into the dynamic between his wife, Upasana, and Chiranjeevi, noting that they share a remarkably strong friendship. While Charan himself admitted feeling hesitant to initiate conversations with his father, Upasana freely engages with him, often inquiring about his health or spending time with him.

This bond, according to Charan, grew stronger due to her efforts to connect despite linguistic challenges. Upasana’s Telugu blends dialects from both Telangana and Andhra regions, making her speech a kind of “kichadi,” as Charan described. Chiranjeevi encouraged her to improve her language skills, and through this shared journey, they became close, with Upasana even receiving more support from Chiranjeevi than Charan himself at times.

The father-son duo has not only shared a meaningful relationship in real life but also collaborated on screen in films like Magadheera, Bruce Lee: The Fighter, Khaidi No. 150, and Acharya. Their off-screen bond continues to reflect in their performances and public appearances.

Currently, Ram Charan is preparing for his next major release, a sports drama titled RC16, directed by Buchi Babu Sana and starring opposite Janhvi Kapoor. While his professional journey continues to evolve, his memories of discipline, family values, and emotional connection with Chiranjeevi remain central to his life story.
