What began as a routine afternoon shift turned into a fatal ordeal for 24-year-old Jessica McLaughlin, who died days after a brutal attack by her supervisor at a convenience store in Los Angeles. Jessica, who had shown up to work expecting a normal day, was pinned down by her manager during a violent altercation on June 24. The manager allegedly sat on her upper body, restricting her breathing until she lost consciousness. Jessica never recovered.

According to her family, coworkers who witnessed the assault tried to intervene but were also assaulted in the process. Jessica managed to briefly free herself and collapsed moments later, gasping for air and asking others to call 911. Though CPR was administered, she was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and later declared brain-dead due to prolonged oxygen deprivation.

Her father, Clancey McLaughlin, later confirmed that the young woman had suffered severe brain damage. “She’s basically declared brain-dead now,” he told KTLA on June 30. On Wednesday, July 2, Jessica was taken off life support — eight days after the assault — as her family came to terms with the devastating reality that there was no hope of recovery.

Jessica’s brother, Sean McLughlin, on the GoFundMe page, alleged that the manager ran to the back room in an attempt to delete the security footage before fleeing the scene on a bicycle. Authorities have yet to locate the suspect, who remains at large.

“Jessica didn’t do anything wrong. She was the victim, and this attack should have never happened,” Sean McLaughlin wrote.

As police continue their search for the fugitive manager, Jessica’s family is now navigating both heartbreak and mounting funeral expenses. Their GoFundMe campaign has become a rallying point — not just for financial support, but for demanding accountability and justice for a life cut short in a place that should have been safe.
