Adrienne Adams' early life


Adrienne Eadie Adams is an American politician currently serving as the speaker of the New York City Council since 2022. She has made many records after her election in 2017, such as being the first-ever African American speaker and being the first woman to represent the District 28, which includes Queens neighbourhoods of Jamaica, Richmond Hill, Rochdale Village and South Ozone Park.

Born on December 9, 1960, Adams was raised by "two proud union workers", with her mother being a cook for Rikers Island and her father working as a driver for UPS. She attended the St. Pascal Baylon Elementary School, Bayside High School and York College, before getting a bachelor's degree in psychology from Spelman College.

Before working in the council, she worked in corporate executive training, human capital management and child care training. Since 2017, she has been working in the New York City Council, along with becoming the speaker in 2022. Now, since she had completed two consecutive four-year terms, she remains ineligible for re-election, and thus, Adams is hoping to climb the ladder as the mayor of New York.

Adrienne Adams' love and family life


Adrienne Adams has been married to her husband, Joseph J. Adams , for 35 years. During a 2023 interview with The Cut, the 64-year-old revealed that she shares a "beautiful blended family" with her husband, with whom she had four adult children. Additionally, the couple is grandparents to 11 grandchildren.

Additionally, she credited her husband for being her "foundation", without whom her job as the speaker for the NYC Council "would not have been possible." "I would not be where I am today without the support of my family, especially my loving husband. They are my rock and my daily motivation," she added.
