Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Reinforcing the country’s ancient ethos in a modern form to create a harmonious social atmosphere, mediation is the need of the hour, said Chief Minister Mohan Yadav during the inauguration of the country's first Community Mediation Centre at Commissioner of Police Office here on Wednesday.
Highlighting the importance of mediation, CM Yadav said it not only resolves disputes but also builds mutual trust within society. He announced that the state government would work to expand the concept of mediation to villages, fostering a spirit of mutual harmony even at the grassroots.
He emphasised the importance of strong family ties in maintaining the social fabric and praised Indore Police Commissionerate, district administration, and Legal Services Authority for setting a commendable example through this initiative.
The newly established Community Mediation Centre at the Police Commissioner’s Office in Palasia was inaugurated under the joint aegis of the Police Commissionerate and the High Court Legal Services Committee.
CM inaugurated the centre in the presence of acting Chief Justice and executive chairman of the MP State Legal Services Authority, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, and administrative judge of the MP High Court Indore Bench and chairman of the High Court Mediation Committee, Justice Vivek Rusia.

Mediation not only resolves disputes, it strengthens human relationships
Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva remarked that mediation helps not only in resolving disputes but also in strengthening human relationships. He pointed out that while the Western world calls it "mediation," India has a long-standing tradition of dispute resolution through community elders like panchs and sarpanchs.
5,000+ cases resolved in 22 centres across city
Justice Vivek Rusia shared that over 5,000 cases have been successfully resolved in the city through 125 mediators representing 27 different social groups across 22 mediation centres. He noted that Indore is the only city in the country to host mediation centres in both the collector’s and commissioner’s offices.
A pilot programme had been running at the Commissioner of Police’s office for the last four months, and with encouraging results, the centre was formally inaugurated today.
The event concluded with commissioner of police Santosh Kumar Singh presenting a memento to CM Yadav as a token of appreciation.
