Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): The city police have detained a girl student (BTech Computer Science second year) of Pandit Dwarka Prasad Mishra Indian Institute of Information Technology – Design Manufacturing for allegedly taking video of fellow students in the bathroom of girls hostel.
CSP Ranjhi Satish Kumar Sahu said that accused student was detained and electronic devices including a laptop and mobile phone were seized for further investigation. A case has been registered under several sections of the BNS and IT Act, police said.
IIITDM director Bharatendu Kumar said that a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter thoroughly.
The girls’ hostel warden received complaint from a girl student of B-Tech fourth year that she suspected someone was shooting a video in the bathroom on Sunday night. She told the warden that she saw a hand holding a mobile phone taking video and when she shouted the girl ran away.
The hostel warden took cognizance on the complaint and checked the mobile phones of some of the girls in the hostel and found incriminating videos in the accused’s mobile. The police were then called in.
Meanwhile, 150 students of the institute staged demonstration in front of Dumna police post under Khamaria police station and demanded immediate action against the accused.
They claimed that the videos were being shared on social media, threatening the privacy and dignity of more than 400 female students at the institute.
Reports said that accused used to send videos to her boyfriend in Delhi and this MMS scandal had been ongoing for the past two years.
