Negligence: Protest On Bhopal-Jabalpur Highway Amid Rains, MLA Patwa Sits On Dharna, Seeks SDOP Ouster

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): High-voltage drama unfolded on the Bhopal-Jabalpur Highway on Sunday when Bhojpur MLA Surendra Patwa, along with his supporters, staged a dharna amid rains demanding the removal of Obedullaganj SDOP.

The BJP MLA was displeased with SDOP Sheela Surana over her alleged failure to arrest accused in an attempt-to-murder case. The MLA demanded the immediate arrest of four absconding accused.

As soon as administration came to know about the MLA’s demonstration, senior administrative and police officials including SP Pankaj Pandey rushed to the site and pleaded with him to end the dharna.

The officials also presented an action taken report on the case and assured to arrest the absconding accused. The MLA ended the dharna on the assurance of arrest of the absconding accused.

Police officials said that a group clash had taken place between members of two communities on June 5. The police registered a case against members of both communities.

While the investigation was underway, one member of a community allegedly stabbed a man from the other community. The injured man was referred to Hamidia Hospital. Later, based on the hospital report, the police added sections of ‘attempt to murder’ in the case. The police also arrested three men in connection with the incident and sent them to judicial remand. Four other accused are on the run.

Patwa alleged negligence on the part of the police administration, stating that the police had failed to arrest the absconding accused. The MLA mounted pressure on the police to remove the SDOP, alleging that she was not taking the case seriously. The police confirmed that new sections had been added and three arrests had been made in connection with the case.

Team formed to arrest absconders: SP

SP Pankaj Pandey told Free Press that a team has been formed to arrest the absconding accused. After the assurance from the police, the MLA lifted the demonstration.
