Popular YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia has finally been cleared to travel abroad, months after facing a travel ban following India's Got Latent controversy. On Monday (April 29), shortly after recovering his passport from the police, Ranveer flew out of India for a vacation and shared his excitement with fans on social media.
Taking to Instagram, Ranveer posted photos from Mumbai airport and from inside his flight. In one of the images, he was seen posing at the terminal, while another showed him relaxing onboard. He captioned the post, "Passport mil gya guys (sic)."
The Supreme Court's decision to direct the release of his passport brought major relief to the content creator, who had been barred from international travel after facing backlash over controversial remarks he made about parents during his appearance on comedian Samay Raina's YouTube show, India’s Got Latent. His comments had triggered multiple FIRs and legal complaints across the country.
Earlier, in an interim order dated February 18, the apex court had temporarily stayed Ranveer’s arrest but mandated that he surrender his passport to the Thane Nodal Cyber Police and refrain from leaving India without prior court approval.
Ranveer subsequently moved the court seeking the release of his passport, citing professional commitments abroad and noting that the police investigation against him had been completed. Granting his request, the SC permitted the return of his travel documents.
While Ranveer enjoys his first international trip since the controversy, legal proceedings related to the case are still ongoing. He is expected to cooperate fully with any future requirements of the court.
Previously, the SC had allowed Ranveer to resume airing his podcast under the condition that he uphold “standards of decency and morality.” The court also relaxed the earlier ban on Ranveer and his associates broadcasting shows on platforms like YouTube, as long as they avoided commenting on sub-judice matters.
