Black Eyed Peas singer,Fergie, has made a surprising return to music eight years after leaving the band. The Meet Me Halfway star, 50, has taken a lengthy hiatus from the spotlight after shooting to fame with the global chart-toppers, fronted by The Voice star, Will.i.am.
Almost 20 years after she released 'London Bridge' for her debut album, The Dutchess,Fergie has returned to the capital to reshoot the video after admitting that the original was in fact shot outside Tower Bridge. The Glamorous star reshot the visual for for the upcoming Netflix show, Too Much and stars alongside actress Megan Stalter in it.
Seemingly underwhelmed by the real London Bridge, which many believe is not as visually iconic as Tower Bridge, Fergie quipped as she cut a flashback of the original video, "Now you see why we didn't shoot here originally" as she larked around with Megan, wearing a Union Jack skirt, top hat and black bustier.
Fergie and Megan, 34, dance on the bridge in the clip and are surrounded by paparazzi as they sip tea. The Hacks actress recreates the singer's dance moves around the non-plussed King's Guard before eventually being arrested by them.
The iconic Tower Bridge is in the background in several shots of the glitzy music video, which concludes with clips of Lena Dunham's upcoming Netflix series Too Much, which stars Megan and takes place in the UK.
Reflecting in a press release, Fergie said of reshooting the video: "As an American girl who once had her own adventures in London while filming the video for ‘London Bridge,’ I instantly felt a connection to this project.
"Being that the series was written and directed by Lena Dunham and starring the brilliant Megan Stalter about an American girl navigating her own London experience — my creative soul couldn't say no."
Fergie stepped away from the Black Eyed Peas eight years ago before going onto release her second album, The Double Dutchess.
In a interview with Billboard magazine, bandmates, Will.i.am, Apl.de.ap and Taboo revealed that Fergie left the group because she wanted to be "great mom."
Will.i.am explained, "We love her, and she's focusing on being a mom. That's a hard job, and that's what she really wants to do and we're here for her... It's really the way Fergie designed it, so we're respecting her design. We love Fergie, and we don't want anything but awesomeness for her."
In 2017, Fergie released her second solo album Double Dutchess, which Will.i.am helped produce, and launched her record label Dutchess Music.
The same year, the singer divorced her husband, Josh Duhamel. They finalised their split in Nov. 2019 and have since been co-parenting their son Axl Duhamel.
