But the determined actor continues to pursue work - with filming for the latest season of Euphoria starting next week. Eric, 52, said: "I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter."
He has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease), which is a rare motor neurone disease (MND). There is no cure with treatment only available to help ease the pain, which can be severe particularly on and around the nerves and joints.
Eric, who was in Bad Boys: Ride or Die last year, has received a flood of messages of support on social media since his exclusive interview with concerning his health journey.

The diagnosis comes amid a time of personal upheaval as, just last month, Eric's wife Rebecca Gayheart had filed documents aiming to dismiss their ongoing divorce proceedings. Rebecca initially sought to dissolve their 14-year marriage in February 2018.
Unfortunately, ALS is a formidable adversary, being a degenerative nervous system disease that takes a toll on brain and spinal cord nerve cells, progressively crippling muscle control, reports . Treatment options are limited, with organizations like the Mayo Clinic affirming the lack of a cure, according to TMZ.

The news of Eric's health battle has hit fans hard, particularly given the actor's popularity which soared after his chillingly brilliant portrayal of the manipulative business tycoon Cal Jacobs in Euphoria.
And on the social media platform X, formerly known as , fans expressed deep sorrow. Devastated remarks circled the internet with one fan posting: "Eric Dane being diagnosed with als ruined my week..." while another sent out a heartfelt message saying: "Gutted to hear about Eric Dane. Sending him and all those that love him strength."
One shocked fan posted: "Eric Dane getting diagnosed w a terminal illness was not on my 2025 bingo card I'm actually gonna cry." Another expressed their sympathy, saying, "This is awful. Thinking of Eric Dane and his family. McSteamy forever," harking back to his popular nickname from his Grey's Anatomy tenure.

ALS is the most common type of motor neurone disease. Its early symptoms include muscle weakness in the arms and legs, which can cause you to trip and drop things.
