Hydrangeas and tomato plants can both flourish with the aid of fertiliser, yet it's the tomato crops that truly demand extra sustenance. While hydrangeas might thrive to an extent without fertiliser, gardeners could notice fewer blooms on their plants.
Tomato plants, voracious in their appetite, find that even nutrient-dense planting mix doesn't suffice, relying on repeated feeds to stay robust and fruitful. Gardening expert Grace Alexander revealed her secret to green success on the Gardening UK Facebook page, with her trusty homemade mix sparking stellar growth in both plants.

With enthusiasm, she posted alongside an image of her blend: "Good Morning all. This is my homemade fertiliser (used tea leaves and crushed eggshells)."
She raved about the concoction, claiming: "It works amazingly on my hydrangeas and tomato plants. I swear they have better flowers and fruit because of it. It's ready to be spread later in the garden."
Eggshells offer a boon for both hydrangeas and tomatoes, delivering a steady supply of calcium and helping stave off blossom end rot in tomatoes.
Similar to coffee grounds, used teabags act as magnificent feed and mulch around these plants, reports the Express. Vital components in plant feeds commonly include nitrogen for strong leafy development.
But compared to commercial feeds, tea leaves are brimming with nitrogen, not to mention handy doses of potassium and phosphorus.
Ensure to extract the tea grounds from the bags, and dry them out prior to using them on the plants. However, some gardeners prefer to utilise paper (compostable) tea bags, as a mulch or drainage layer.
Grace also mentioned that she occasionally adds potato peels to it, which also proves effective.
