Inter Milan's new stance on Rasmus Hojlund transfer as Man Utd suffer fresh blow

Manchester United's hopes that Inter Milan would follow up their enquiry with a bid for misfiring £72million striker Rasmus Hojlund have taken a huge hit. Inter targeted two new strikers after finishing second in Serie A and then being hammered by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League Final.

But they have spent £20m on Parma's Ange-Yoan Bonny and are ready to give teenager Francesco Pio Esposito more game-time. He capped a fine performance against River Plate in the Club World Cup with his first goal for them.

That would close the door on a permanent move for Denmark international Hojlund, although Inter could still offer a 12-month loan option with an obligation to buy. United are willing to listen to offers for every member of their squad this summer after their disastrous season.

The 22-year-old has also been linked with a move to Napoli, although their first-choice target is Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez. Hojlund expects to start the season with United, having been asked about his future during the June international window.

"I have a contract until 2030, so I expect to play for Manchester United," he told Danish broadcaster TV2. "I'm looking forward to going on a summer vacation, and then I'm fully dedicated to the project that's underway."

"I know I can't get much out of reading things. I know what the facts are, and that is that I have a contract with Manchester United until 2030. I expect to play there, so I'm just getting ready for some summer vacation and then hopefully a good pre-season."

Hojlund also enjoys working with Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim, as he declared in March: "I'm focused on the task with Ruben because that project is incredibly exciting.

"Erik [ten Hag] was of course one of the reasons why I moved to Manchester United. He was doing something good and was a talented coach, but it didn't work out, and that's how it is.

"I'm still very happy to be at Manchester United. It's the club I've always dreamed of playing for. And I'm really happy for Ruben. He's a cool character and a cool person."

Amorim has also suggested that we're yet to see the best of the Dane, saying last month: "I'm happy. Of course all the team has to improve, but the way he runs, he fights for every ball, loses a lot of duels, wins some duels. But he is improving. I'm really happy with him, he just needs to continue working hard and better things will come."
