"Maybe if anything, it's going to push me to stay in shape and stay healthy, and be a good pitcher as long as I possibly can. I want her to be able to remember me on the field."
In 2018 - the pair welcomed their first child and at the time,Kate shared a sweet "daddy-daughter" moment of Justin cradling the couple's newborn. Kate gave birth to Genevieve Upton Verlander on November 7, and announced the new arrival on Instagram.
Days after, the star shared another cute snap of Genevieve, this time being held by Justin. She captioned the image: "Daddy daughter snuggles beat everything." Justin, who on Wednesday missed out on an annual award handed to the the best pitcher in US baseball, had earlier posted the same image.

In 2023, the New York Mets traded right-hander Justin to the Houston Astros, marking the end of the pitcher's brief tenure after he signed a two-year, $86.7 million contract with the organisation last offseason. New York received top prospect Drew Gilbert and minor leaguer Ryan Clifford in return.
Despite Verlander's impressive 3.15 ERA entering Tuesday's trade deadline, he endured a rocky relationship with Mets fans. He took about a month to find a groove with the team — and the response was unforgiving.

"Not a lot of positives to take out of it," he said. "I guess the only positive is that I know I got some work to do. "I already started looking at some video trying to find. I think there's a little something off of my mechanics. I need to fix it, and I need to fix it in a hurry."
