Asian cuisine has taken the world by storm, with dishes like Chow Mein, Pad Thai and Nasi Goreng becoming household favourites. Many Brits have a soft spot for a Chinese takeaway, while Thai, Malaysian, Indonesian and Vietnamese dishes are also lauded.
September marks East and South East Asian (ESEA) Heritage Month, a period dedicated to celebrating and learning about ESEA heritage, culture and history. This year holds particular significance as it commemorates the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War. ESEA culture encompasses a broad spectrum of traditions, including diverse cuisines, social customs and a range of artistic and cultural practices - from the Chinese art of Feng Shui to bonsai, Japanese shodo (calligraphy) and many more.
In recognition of ESEA Heritage Month, Chinatown London has posted on Instagram, showcasing some of its favourite eateries in the area that offer a variety of Asian cuisines.

1. Dim Sum at Plum ValleyFirst up is the Dim Sum at Plum Valley, a family-run Chinese restaurant nestled in the heart of Chinatown on the famous Gerrard Street.
Dim Sum is a traditional Chinese meal consisting of small plates of dumplings and other snacks, typically enjoyed with tea.
2. Trio of roasts at The Eight Restaurant.The Eight, a Hong Kong-style restaurant on Shaftesbury Avenue, serves classic dishes you might find in Hong Kong - from 'volcano' egg pork chop rice, to wonton noodles, and their signature pineapple bun with butter.
Its Three Kinds BBQ features roasted pork, duck and chicken with a sweet flavoured sauce.
3. Hainanese chicken noodle soup at Rasa Sayang RestaurantNext up on Chinatown London's Instagram post is the Malaysian eatery, Rasa Sayang, located on Macclesfield Street.
Its menu boasts Nasi Lemak, Malaysia's national dish, and a Hainanese chicken noodle soup with poached chicken and flat rice noodles in a chicken broth.
4. Beef Bibimbap at Pochawa GrillKorean barbeque has been gaining popularity in the UK and USA, and Pochawa Grill on Wardour Street specialises in just that.
Chinatown London highlights the restaurant's Beef Bibimbap, a Korean hot stone pot dish with mixed rice, sautéed vegetables, a raw egg yolk and spicy chilli paste with beef, but there are also chicken and tofu options available.
5. Stir fried beef noodles at Old Tree Daiwan BeeOld Tree Daiwan Bee, a laid-back eatery on Rupert Street, serves authentic Taiwanese street food.
Its menu features stir fried beef noodles with Szechuan peppercorn and dry chilli.
Other items include Taiwanese style spring onion pancake, Taiwanese salt and pepper crispy chicken and Taiwanese braised pork rice.
6. Tom Yam Mama at Speedboat BarChinatown London included Speedboat Bar on Rupert Street in its Instagram post roundup.
This Thai restaurant and bar offers a special dish called Tom Yam Mama noodles with squid, pork and rice.
7. Prawn vermicelli at Pho & BunPho & Bun, a Vietnamese restaurant, specialises in pho, a soup dish consisting of broth, rice noodles, herbs and meat.
The eatery also offers freshly steamed filled buns, but Chinatown London recommends its vermicelli with tiger prawn.
8. Matcha sundae at TsujiriIf you’re a fan of desserts and can’t resist matcha, Tsujiri on Newport Court might be for you.
This Japanese tea house is dedicated to matcha creations, and Chinatown London recommends sampling its matcha sundae.
9. Ube Bilog at Mamasons Dirty Ice CreamFor those craving something sweet in Chinatown, Mamasons Dirty Ice Cream on Newport Court serves up the famous Ube Bilog.
This much-loved Filipino dessert features vibrant purple ube (yam) ice cream tucked inside a freshly toasted milk bun, creating a unique ice cream sandwich.
