Oscar Piastri sends message to NFL star after agreeing Miami Grand Prix bet

Oscar Piastri stuck to his word and performed a griddy after winning the . The McLaren star had star Justin Jefferson cheering him on Sunday and said he would copy the Minnesota Vikings wide receiver's celebration if he won.

The pair met up prior to the race and Jefferson taught him how to do the griddy - a dance move Jefferson performs after scoring touchdowns - with Piastri sticking by his promise to give it a go if he took the chequered flag in Florida.

Piastri began the race in fourth but came through to take the lead, overtaking , and then set off into the distance as he claimed his fourth win of the season to further extend his lead in the championship.

As he returned to Parc Fermé the Australian was greeted by his team but he quickly attempted a griddy, only lasting a matter of seconds before he laughed off his attempt.

Piastri took to and said: "Alright Justin, I came through on the bet, I attempted the Griddy. Was it pretty? No. Did I stay true to my word? Yes. Thanks for the inspiration, hope you enjoyed. That is the first and only time I'll do the Griddy so I'll leave it up to you."

Before the race Jefferson had urged the McLaren man to repeat his dance. "No one has ever done it in racing," he said. "You'll be the first one." The Australian vowed to give it a go if he claimed victory. "Well if I do it this weekend, I'll do it for you," Piastri said

Piastri was able to take advantage of some near crashes into the first corner as Lando Norris was forced off track by Max Verstappen, which allowed the Australian through. It became obvious that the McLaren had more than enough race pace, which Piastri used impressively.

He said: "A bit of argy-bargy at Turn 1 which helped me a bit. I was aware enough to avoid Max coming through in Turn 1. From that point onwards I knew I had a good pace advantage and clearly the car was unbelievable."

McLaren CEO Zak Brown has welcomed to protest into their MCL39, but wants it to come at a potential price. Their rivals claim that McLaren are using illegal tricks to cool their tyres. Red Bull, having been the dominant force for so long, have now fallen behind McLaren.

The Austrian outfit reportedly suspected that McLaren are putting a small amount of water into their tyres for cooling, which carries performance benefits, although the FIA and F1 tyre supplier Pirelli found no evidence to back that.
