Game of Thrones enthusiasts are in high spirits as Sky has unveiled an update for its spin-off series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The prequel to Game of Thrones features Irish actor and rising star Peter Claffey as Dunk or Ser Duncan the Tall, a hedge knight.
This six-episode fantasy drama is the third instalment in Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire franchise, drawing from his novellas for its foundation. Alongside Claffey, Dexter Sol Ansell stars as Egg or Prince Aegon Targaryen, who also serves as Dunk's squire.
Here's everything you need to know about the setting and characters of the series. Dunk is portrayed as a roaming defender of the realm, not tied to any specific lord or house.
Following the death of his master, Ser Arlan of Pennytree (Danny Webb), Dunk sets off to compete in a tournament at Ashford Meadow to earn some money, triggering a sequence of events that will have far-reaching effects on society.

The first season takes inspiration from The Hedge Knight, the inaugural novella from George RR Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms unfolds after the events of House of the Dragon, reports the Manchester Evening News.
With Dunk's rise, the narrative is set just over 50 years following the demise of the last dragon.
Ira Parker told Entertainment Weekly: "Nobody's thinking about magic. This could basically be 14th century Britain."
He added, "This is hard nose, grind it out, gritty, medieval knights, cold with a really light, hopeful touch. It's a wonderful place to be.
"We are ground up in this series, we are starting right at the bottom. We're not with the lords and ladies, the kings and queens."
In contrast to the previous series in the Game of Thrones universe, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is narrated from the viewpoint of the lower echelons of Westeros society.
With scant knowledge of knightly conduct, Dunk finds himself having to navigate a tournament without any money or reputation.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will air on Sky and HBO in January 2026
