India lost a match that was completely in its control. The match which it dominated in the first two days was snatched away by England so easily. Like a chocolate is snatched away from a child. Vice-captain Rishabh Pant scored a century in both innings while Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and KL Rahul also scored centuries, but India could not score the expected big score in both innings and many important catches were also missed.
Remove these mistakes before the next match.
The next match is to be held at Edgbaston, Birmingham from July 2. India has a long time to prepare. In such a situation, Shubman Gill and company will have to work on these three mistakes. If these shortcomings are not removed, then no one can stop them from trailing 0-2 in the series.
The middle order will have to score runs.
After the score was 359 runs for three wickets at one time in the first innings, the entire team was all out for 471 runs. In the second innings also, the last six wickets fell within 77 runs. After the match, Shubman Gill also admitted this mistake. He said, 'We talked about the contribution of the lower order, but it happened so quickly (fall of wickets). We will have to improve it in the coming matches.'
Catching is taught in childhood, isn't it?
The one thing that came in the way of India's victory was poor fielding. India dropped many catches. There were at least seven such catches that should have been taken. Yashasvi Jaiswal alone dropped four catches. There was never any pressure on England. Fours kept going through the gaps. The runs leaked due to a misfield. They used to run for singles and doubles with their eyes closed! On the dropped catches, Gill defended his fielders and said, 'Opportunities are not easily available on such wickets. This is a young team and is learning. Hopefully, there will be better performance in these aspects in the future.'
Selection of playing eleven according to the pitch
Before the start of the series, it was said that this was coach Gautam Gambhir's team. He decided the squad. He chose the captain and he also had a say in the playing eleven. If this is true, then coach sahab will have to understand that a match is not made just by blind faith in the players. Planning is very important. You cannot ignore which player of which nature will be perfect on which pitch. Like in the Leeds Test, Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja were chosen to prolong the batting, but both of them proved to be a complete flop with the ball. If specialist spinner Kuldeep Yadav was in the final eleven, then maybe Jasprit Bumrah would have got support from the other end. The way the pitch was cracked on the last day, definitely the English batsmen would not have been able to play them.
