India on Monday expelled six Canadian diplomats and announced the recall of its high commissioner and other targeted diplomats and officials from Canada, following which Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called a hurried press conference. In Ottawa, Justin Trudeau said that he was sharing all the information he had about allegations of involvement of Indian officials in the murder of a Canadian citizen last year with his close allies, especially the US.
He said that since last year we have been working closely with our partners, especially the US, where similar behaviour of India was seen in the case of attempted extrajudicial killing. Justin Trudeau said that we will continue to work closely with our allies and remain united for the rule of law. However, no statement has been issued by the US State Department regarding this matter so far.
Justin Trudeau, while talking about the situation not being right at all, said that we only want the people of Canada not to have to face violence in their communities and in their homes. We also want that there should be no tension in relations with India. Last week we contacted the Indian government through our agencies, diplomats, and police agencies. So that this difference can be resolved. Canadians can be protected. At the same time, the good relations between India and Canada should not end.
The Canadian Prime Minister said that unfortunately, India has not chosen to work with us. They have chosen to launch personal attacks against the Trudeau government, deny it and push it back, and question the integrity of our agencies and institutions. Trudeau did not stop here and alleged that I believe India had made a big mistake by using its diplomats to attack the people of Canada, make them feel unsafe in their homes, and above all commit acts of violence and even murder, this is unacceptable.
The Ministry of External Affairs issued its statement saying that India reserves the right to take further steps in response to the Trudeau government's support for extremism, violence, and separatism against India. Prime Minister Trudeau's hostile nature towards India has been clearly visible for a long time. He visited India in 2018 with the aim of wooing the vote bank but it proved to be uncomfortable for him. His cabinet includes people who are openly associated with the extremist and separatist agenda in relation to India.
