Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton revealed he has had a "few chats" with Thomas Tuchel but was utterly unfazed knowing the England boss was in attendance for their historic 2-1 triumph over Brighton at Selhurst Park.
It ended the Eagles' 92-year wait to complete a league double against their arch-rivals, a victory secured in dramatic fashion after both Eddie Nketiah and Marc Guehi were sent off in the second half, forcing Palace to cling on through 12 minutes of added time.
Wharton was not called up to Tuchel's first England camp last month, but spent time training with the senior squad during that international window whilst with the under-21s.
"(Tuchel) sent me a little message (before the game)," said Wharton, after another impressive individual outing.
"But it doesn't matter who is watching or who's at the game. We've got to win the game, and I've got to perform as well as I can.
"It doesn't change anything for me. Like I said, everybody watches. Even if he's not at the game, he'll probably still see the highlights.
"Everyone is watching all the Premier League games. It's the biggest league in the world, so nothing changes for me."
Wharton, 21, joined Palace from Blackburn last January, another prescient piece of recruitment by departing sporting director Dougie Freedman.
He earned his first senior England call-up that May and was one of four Palace players in Gareth Southgate's squad at last summer's Euros.
Asked if he had spoken to Tuchel about factoring into England's future, Wharton said: "Nothing too much. We've had a few chats.
"Obviously I trained with them a couple of times during the international break, so I saw him then. But there's other good players, Marc (Guehi), Ebs (Eberechi Eze), Dean (Henderson), they're all in the squad, Tyrick (Mitchell), Chilly (Ben Chilwell), there's a lot of talent in our squad, so there's more than just me to come and watch."
Eze - who scored his first senior England goal last Monday - picked up both assists for Palace, who are just the third team in Premier League history to win with two men dismissed.
Jean-Philippe Mateta's spectacularly-struck opener got the Eagles out to a third-minute lead, which Danny Welbeck then cancelled out in the 31st minute.
It was a serendipitous time-stamp for the 34-year-old, who - with his 31st in the top-flight - became Brighton's all-time top Premier League goal-scorer.
Daniel Munoz fired the hosts back in front 10 minutes after the restart but Palace needed to dig deep after 68th-minute substitute Nketiah collected a second yellow card 10 minutes after his introduction.
Palace captain Guehi was also booked for a second time on the stroke of 90 minutes - the first Premier League red card of his career - and it briefly became nine versus 10 when Jan-Paul van Hecke was also dismissed in the sixth minute of added time.
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler, who felt his Europe-chasing side lacked maturity, could at least take some minor consolation in the achievement of Welbeck, two years his senior.
He said: "If you work hard and if you always try to give your best for the club on the pitch, beside the pitch, then you deserve it, and that's the result from hard work."
