is one of the UK's most recognisable chains and is a staple across many high streets. do their weekly shop or pick up a famous meal deal at Tesco every day, although we may be immune to the layout of the UK's largest one American thought it was "wild".
An American who visited the iconic retailer for the first time took to TikTok to record his reaction. @ajslambino, who has a quarter of a million followers on the platform, was left astounded by some of the items on sale. The American said he had never seen the "scan as you shop" device and had a three-word reaction.
"That is wild," AJ said. "What is this scan as you shop, I've never seen this in America."
The devices allow Clubcard members to scan their shopping with a handheld scanner as they go round the store; they are typically located at the front of Tesco's stores.
As the American continued to go round the store he also found the meal deal section "wild". He then came across the tempting treats aisle, "It's like chocolate heaven here" said AJ.
He added: "So many chocolate and biscuits."
There was one thing in particular that AJ says the UK does very differently to the US and that is birthday cakes being sold amongst other items.
He said: "Birthday cakes out in the open, out in the wild.
"Our birthday cakes would be behind the glass case, they would not be out like this. In America these would be insanely expensive and custom done."
Hilariously, the video then cuts to a 'Discover the authentic taste of America' section which features hot dogs, Mac and Cheese and burgers.
However, AJ noted that "this isn't America at all".
In response, one user hilariously said: "There used to be an even greater choice of biscuits, chocolates and sweets in supermarkets a few years ago."
Another added: "Scan as you shop is a life changer till one thing doesn't scan then u have to redo all lol."
