Arsenal's pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly in danger of collapsing due to the structure of the transfer fee add-ons. The Gunners have been chasing the striker's signature all summer after he bagged 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting last season.
Arsenal are in desperate need of firepower in front of goal after lacking a cutting edge in the final third last season. Mikel Arteta's side had been expected to launch an assault on the Premier League title but fell away during the second part of the campaign as they ultimately finished 10 points behind champions Liverpool. And Gyokeres could prove to be the missing piece of the puzzle if Arsenal can get a deal over the line ahead of the new campaign.
According to Portuguese publication Record, Arsenal and Gyokeres' agent presented a deal to Sporting during a meeting between the three parties on Monday.
The deal guaranteed the 22-year-old's current employers a fixed transfer fee of just under £61million, plus just over £8.5m in bonuses.
However, there was a disagreement over the add-ons as Sporting want that part of the payment structure to be easily achieved, while Arsenal are resisting the request. And talks are said to have reached a dead end, although all scenarios are still open at this point.

Gyokeres joined Sporting from Coventry two years ago after finding the back of the net 38 times in 91 Championship matches during his final two seasons with the Sky Blues.
The 27-year-old Sweden international initially arrived in England in 2018 when he joined Brighton from Brommapojkarna in his homeland but failed to make the grade at the AMEX Stadium as he was shipped off on loan spells to St Pauli and Swansea.
He discovered his scoring touch during a temporary spell with Coventry during the 2020/21 season before making the move permanent in July 2021. And after impressing for the Midlands side, he was snapped up by Sporting as he headed to Portugal.
Arsenal were said to be in advanced talks to sign Gyokeres a week ago after Arteta told Gunners chiefs he wanted the deal completed within a fortnight.
And Gyokeres apparently contacted Sporting president Frederico Varandas to express his frustrations that negotiations over a move to the Emirates Stadium weren't progressing.
But the player, who has scored 15 goals in 26 games for Sweden, is now facing disciplinary action in Portugal after failing to report for pre-season training. And he will be desperate for talks to continue between Arsenal and Sporting in the coming days.
