Tourists heading to this summer have been urged to familiarise themselves with traffic laws because it has been revealed that it's not only drivers who can be slapped with for not following the rules. In fact, there are many ways pedestrians can be hit with road traffic penalties.

Now, a travel influencer has shared how tourists heading to could have their holidays ruined by a rule that he has dubbed" the craziest thing you can get fined for". Under Spain's Traffic and Road Safety Law, pedestrians must use zebra crossings for their own safety and that of other road users. Failing to use a pedestrian crossing could land you with a fine of €100 (£84), but this is not even the biggest expense tourists could be forced to fork out.

Those who use a zebra crossing but cannot be bothered to wait until the green light is shown could also be slapped with an even bigger fine of €200 (£167).

"Crossing the road on a red man here in Spain, well, that's a no-no," said on TikTok.

"I didn't believe it at first, but they are fining you if you cross the road on a red man. You can actually end up with a 200-euro on-the-spot fine.

"So, a little friendly advice [...] maybe avoid crossing the road on a red man, especially in front of a policeman."

Harry's warning has been greatly received by other users on .

"This must be why they want all your bank details and home address when you go there on holiday," commented one.

"I did this loads when I was here a few weeks ago," wrote a second. "Didn't even know about this, luckily I wasn't caught."

Other pedestrian fines in Spain include €100 (£84) for walking on motorways or dual carriageways and even €200 for walking on the right-hand side of the road.
