Carlos Alcaraz sent a heartwarming message to the daughter of a poorly fan who needed treatment during his victory over Fabio Fognini at Wimbledon. The reigning champion was taken all the way by his Italian rival but prevailed in five sets to reach the second round. The match lasted four hours and 37 minutes and was paused in the final set due to a medical emergency in the crowd.
A stricken spectator needed treatment and umpire James Keothavong did not hesitate to bring proceedings to a halt. Alcaraz looked concerned and rushed to his bag to grab a bottle of water before handing it over to the person involved. He continued to hover around the court during the delay, with the match resuming after a break of around 15 minutes.
Afterwards, the daughter of the woman who needed treatment took to X (formerly Twitter) to thank Alcaraz for his assistance.
Tagging the Spaniard in her post, she wrote: "Thank you for the concern shown to my mum today who was taken ill during your tennis match at Centre Court. Unlikely you'll see this message but I can try!"
To her surprise, Alcaraz responded on Tuesday evening and showed his true colours with a heartfelt message to the poorly fan in question.
He replied: "You're very welcome, it was nothing! I hope your mum is doing well. Send her a kiss from me and take good care of her!"

Other crowd members attempted to help the fan by fanning her and shading her with umbrellas. She was eventually carried away from Centre Court but was sitting up and responding to medical staff.
Once the match was able to continue, it did not take long for Alcaraz to claim a 7-5 6-7 7-5 2-6 6-1 victory. He will face Oliver Tarvet, who is ranked outside the world's top 700, in the second round on Wednesday.
Speaking after his battling win over Fognini, Alcaraz said of Tarvet: "He's playing great tennis. I don't have to think like I'm going to win easily. I have to have respect to him and step on the court thinking that if I don't play my best, I can lose.
"I've seen him play and he has a good level. Even though he's not playing professionally or he has played just his first tour level match, it doesn't matter.
"I have to think that it iss going to be a really tough match. It is going to be a difficult one that I have to be ready for and I'm trying to play my best without thinking about his ranking and I have to have that respect to him as well.
"I watched a little bit of his match before mine and I saw great tennis on grass, to be honest. I have to be ready. I will try to improve the things that it didn't work today and hopefully be better."
