CNN was interrupted for another breaking news alert, and this time it wasn't good news for US president Donald Trump. The news channel was discussing Trump's decision to downplay the ongoing Jeffrey Epstein scandal, with the public demanding the sex offender's "client list" be released.
Trump has dismissed this as "a hoax", calling out one reporter for asking about the late financier: "You're asking... we have Texas, we have this, we have all this, all the things- are people still talking about this guy, this creep? That is unbelievable. Do you want to waste the time?"
Now CNN has further called out the head of MAGA, with one anchor reporting: "As for Trump calling it a hoax, it was not a hoax in 2015 when Trump used the scandal to try to attack his opponents."
A clip was then played dating back to 2015 which showed Trump being asked his opinions on Bill Clinton. He responded: "Nice guy... got a lot of problems coming up in my opinion with the famous island with Jeffrey Epstein, lot of problems."
A breaking news strap reading: "Far-right activist warns Trump: Epstein case could 'consume' second term" played along the bottom of the screen over the tense moment.
When Pam Bondi was asked about the alleged list at a White House press conference, Trump doubled down on his refusal to entertain questions about Epstein. A reporter asked: "Your memo and release yesterday on Jeffrey Epstein, it left some lingering mysteries. One of the biggest ones is whether he ever worked for an American intelligence agency, the former labour secretary who is Miami District Attorney, Alex Acosta.
"He allegedly said that he did work for an intelligence agency. So can you resolve whether or not he did?"
Trump fumed: "I can't believe you're asking a question on Epstein at a time like this where we're having some of the greatest success and also tragedy, with what happened in Texas. It just seems, er, like a desecration. But you go ahead."
