A social media content creator "nearly pissed" herself aboard a Delta Airlines flight from Dublin to New York as the plane experienced engine issues and was forced to land in Iceland. Lohanny Santos, an American social media creator who swapped her New York home with a Londoner, was aboard Delta Flight DL45 from Dublin to back to JFK Airport on Tuesday when she said the plane experienced harsh turbulence. The cabin then shook wildly with the lights cutting in and out. The Boeing 767 suffered technical difficulties after taking off from Dublin, forcing the pilots to make an emergency landing at the Keflavík Airport in southwest Iceland
After emergency landing in Iceland, Santos shared with her followers on social media: "I kid you not, I thought I was going to die... I was literally shaking, about to piss myself."
She said the initial silence from the crew left passengers anxious after the screens in the cabin went dark. The only instructions travellers rceived were to grab their life vests.
In her posts, the creator claimed that she would not fly with Deltaagain. She also tagged the company.
Delta told the New York Post: "As the safety of our customers and people is of utmost importance, our flight crew followed standard procedures and diverted to Keflavík International Airport after reporting an engine issue."
Santos said she was able to stay as calm as she could thanks to the man sitting beside her who let Santos hold his hand during the turbulent ride. The man was later identified by outlets as local celebrity Martin King, a longtime presenter with Ireland's Virgin Media who hosts TV and radio shows.
"When we landed, everyone started clapping and were all just relieved," Santos said, giving a quick hug to King. "He helped me through it."
Another man sitting in front of her allegedly lied to Santos to calm her down, claiming that this is a standard procedure.
The New York-bound flight was carrying 208 passengers along with 11 crew members, who were all given accommodations to finish their trip to JFK by Wednesday night, Delta added.
During her short stay, she and other passengers also visited the Blue lagoon, a geothermal spa in southwestern Iceland. On Thursday, her new flight successfully landed in New York. You may also like
