F1 standings after Brazil GP as Lando Norris opens up Oscar Piastri gap

Lando Norris moved to the top of the Formula 1 World Championship standings on Sunday with victory in Brazil. The McLaren drive is now 24 points ahead of team-mate Oscar Piastri with the win.

Piastri finished fifth in Sao Paulo after picking up a penalty for causing a collision. However, the race will be remembered for the incredible recovery drive by Max Verstappen.

The Red Bull drive started the race from the pit lane and suffered an early puncture. Despite the problems, the Dutchman finished third, behind Mecedes' Kimi Antonelli.

However, Norris' win has drastically reduced Verstappen's chances of retaining his World Championship title. The four-time champion is now 49 points behind the Brit with three grand prix remaining.

"It's a great win but to be honest seeing how quick Max was today, I'm pretty disappointed we weren't quicker," he said after the victory in South America.

Asked about the championship, he added: "There's not a long way to go but it can change so quickly like we've seen today, so just focus on myself, keep my head down, ignore everyone and keep pushing."

Piastri was forced to serve a 10-second penalty for an early clash with Antonelli that put Ferrari's Charles Leclerc out of the race. Next up is the flashy lights of Las Vages at the end of month.
