A digital bank boasting more than 1.9 million UK customers is poised to implement a major alteration to its savings accounts.
First Direct account holders will no longer receive paper savings account statements through the post after September 1.
In correspondence sent to customers last week, the bank announced that savers would be transferred to digital statements, meaning they will cease to receive postal correspondence.
Rather, they will have the ability to access, download and print their statements through the bank's mobile application or internet banking platform.
The modification will exclusively impact those maintaining a savings account with the institution.
Account holders have flocked to social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, to express their annoyance regarding the alteration.
One customer declared: "Been with @firstdirect for 25 years. They're fine except for ONE thing. I want a paper statement."
A second individual posted on Facebook: "I just got an email from first direct telling me they will no longer send me paper bank statements."
Meanwhile, a third person remarked: "So irritating!".
First Direct confirmed that the modification will occur automatically, meaning customers are not required to take any action.
Additional correspondence may continue to be dispatched to customers via post.
Account holders will receive electronic notification once their fresh statement becomes available, therefore they should ensure their contact information remains current.
To accomplish this, visit the 'profile' area of the application or 'my details' section of internet banking.
Upon receiving the electronic notification, customers must log in to access their new statement.
To locate it within the application, they must select the three dots positioned beside their account.
