Christmas is fast approaching, and most supermarkets across the country have now opened their delivery slots for the festive season. With demand for doorstep deliveries surging in recent years, many households are keen to get organised early and secure a booking before slots are snapped up.
Shopping online for your Christmas food has become a top choice, saving families precious time and helping everyone avoid the in-store rush. However, getting a delivery slot in December can be a challenge, as the nation's favourite supermarkets quickly sell out. By knowing the key booking dates for each grocer, you can make sure you're not left disappointed and have all your festive food sorted in plenty of time. Here's when and how you can secure your spot, plus the important details for every major supermarket.
Asda Asda confirmed that its Christmas delivery slot bookings opened for Delivery Pass members on October 15, with general customers gaining access from October 21.
Delivery windows run from Sunday, December 21, through to Tuesday, December 23. The minimum spend is £40 for home delivery and £25 for clickandcollect.
Customers must finalise any "Food to Order" items (such as festive centrepieces) by December 15 and can make changes to other items up until 11pm the day before delivery.
CoopCo-op does not offer special early "Christmas slot" bookings in the same way the larger supermarkets do. Customers must wait until five days before their preferred delivery date to arrange a shop for delivery.
Once paid, no changes can be made to the order. No subscription delivery plan is required: you can place orders either directly with Co-op for delivery or click-and-collect, or via partner third-party services (Amazon, Just Eat, Uber Eats).
A minimum spend of £15 applies when ordering directly; fees start at £1.99 and vary by platform.
IcelandSimilarly to Co-op, Iceland does not open long-lead booking for Christmas slots. Instead, you must wait until five days before your preferred slot.
Customers have until 11pm the day before their delivery to finalise their order. A minimum spend of £40 is required to qualify for free next-day delivery.
M&S ForMarks & Spencer, the "Food to Order" service is already live, with bookings open from 23September. This is a collectiononly service (not home delivery), with slots between about 21and24December.
A £50 minimum spend is required at booking, with payment partly taken in advance.
MorrisonsMorrisons opened festive slot bookings for Delivery Pass holders on 1 October and for all other customers on 8 October.
Delivery and collection windows are between Saturday 20 December and Wednesday 24 December. Pass holders benefit from lower minimum spends and free delivery depending on order size.
OcadoOcado gave its Smart Pass customers access to its Christmas delivery schedule from 23 September, with delivery windows between 20 December and 24 December.
Minimum spend for the festive period via this route is £90. The dates for general release to all customers are still subject to further announcement.
Sainsbury'sDelivery Pass holders were able to book around 16October, with general access from 23October. Delivery slots then run from about 18 to 24December, and customers without a pass must allow for a delivery fee unless their basket meets the minimum spend (about £40).
TescoMeanwhile atTesco, Christmas delivery booking begins early November. Those on the "Anytime Delivery Saver" or "Click+Collect" plans can book from 6am on 4November, while all other customers gain access from 6am on 11November.
The service covers deliveries up until about 23 or 24December. The minimum spend sits at about £50 to qualify for free delivery under plan conditions, and delivery fees apply for nonplan customers.
WaitroseWaitrose opened Christmas delivery slots for pass-holders on Wednesday 24 September (provided the pass was active before Monday 1 September). For all other customers, slots from Wednesday 1 October.
Delivery dates run from Saturday 20 December to Wednesday 24 December. Customers have until 11.59pm on Monday 15 December to finalise "Food Made to Order" items, and until 10pm the day before delivery for everything else.
A minimum spend of £40 applies for all orders; for non-pass customers, a delivery fee of at least £2 is added.
It may seem early to think about Christmas in October and November, yet that's exactly when the major supermarkets release their festive delivery slots. With the growth in online shopping and busy household schedules, the Christmas food delivery slot has become as competitive as popular holiday flights.
