Fans of Good Morning Britain were left furious at Sir Keir Starmer and his Labour party as the ITV breakfast show issued an update on the grooming gang inquiry. Hosts Kate Garraway and Robert Rinder shared that several survivors involved in the inquiry have quit, saying they were concerned about how it was being conducted.
Candidates in the running to Chair the process have also dropped out, meaning that the inquiry into grooming gangs could be delayed for months. Reporter Lorna Shaddick explained that the inquiry has been thrown into "disarray" as more and more problems arise. She said the government are "scrambling" to find someone to sit as Chair before adding that, while the heart of the issue is to examine gangs who groom young children, "exactly what it will examine seems to be what many involved are struggling to agree about."
Lorna also shared that five of the women on the panel of survivors have now quit, as they shared concerns over scope becoming so wide. However, four of them have said that they would return but only on the basis of the Safeguarding Minister, Jess Phillips, resigning.
Meanwhile, five others, who are still on the panel, said they will only stay if Ms Phillips stays too - and Keir Starmer has backed this as he shared his confidence in his minister and defended her position.
Lorna said that there are lessons to be learnt from the inquiry and the Home Office admits that "more needs to be done" but it doesn't look like the inquiry will be "getting off the starting blocks any time soon".
Fans of the ITV show were outraged with the update as they branded the Labour party as "Liebour". Posting to X/Twitter, one fan asked: "Why is this inquiry proving such a mess?"
Another said: "Liebour don't want an independent inquiry because their members are involved and Jess the cover up minister wants to cover that up," while a third shared: "They have to delay it until the next GE.
"We already know what the reuslts of the enquiry will say and it'll be made public, the numbers will speak for themselves and there will be outrage, whole communities involved in the cover ups. Labour can't afford the bad press, or backlash."
