Heathrow Airport RECAP: Putin's hackers 'could be' behind attack causing travel misery

Heathrow Airport has warned passengers of delays and cancellations after an alleged cyber attack caused check-in and boarding system glitches. The UK's busiest airport said a technical issue has been reported and urged travellers to check their flight status before setting off. It comes after Brussels Airport in Belgium was hit by a cyberattack on Friday night. Collins Aerospace, which provides check-in and boarding systems for airlines at multiple airports, said it was working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Rob Jardin, chief digital officer at cybersecurity experts NymVPN, warned that Russia "could well be" behind the largescale disruption. Mr Jardin told the Daily Mail: "Intelligence services across Europe have repeatedly reported evidence of Moscow's state-backed sabotage campaigns against energy and telecoms networks. Russia employs one of the largest hacker groups in the world, second only to China, and for the Kremlin, cyberspace has become the new frontline."
