A has warned drivers should avoid buying these second-hand and vehicles if they notice one problem. Leading mechanic Scotty Kilmer stressed road users needed to thoroughly inspect a turbo-charged vehicle before parting with their cash. According to the expert, turbocharged models tend to wear out components more than other vehicles which could backfire.
Most importantly, they urged road users to check their car spark plugs to see if there were any signs of burned oil. This may indicate a major problem underneath the bonnet and is a major red flag road users need to consider before finalising a deal.
, Scotty said: "Is it worth it buying a used turbo-charged car. Of course, you've got to road test it, turbos strain things more. It could be wearing out.
"Then pull out the spark plugs, they are easy to get to, see if they are covered with burned oil or not. If they are burning oil don't buy a used turbo."
Underneath the video, Scotty added that drivers "needed to know this" before agreeing to buying any second-hand turbo model.
A turbocharger forces more air into the engine leading to more combustion and therefore more power.
As a result, turbo-charged vehicles , appealing to petrolheads. However, the system generally burns up more fuel meaning that road users will tend to notice a higher consumption.
Burned oil including worn piston rings in a potentially serious blow. Burned oil could also indicate pressure on the crankcase or the emergence of blown seals.
Motorists were quick to praise Scotty for his tips with some admitting how much they loved having a turbo-charged vehicle.
However, others stressed road users should be cautious before making the switch with repairs likely to be costly.
@kirkcreger4983 said: "I just stay away from any of these small turbo-charged engines in anything, especially full-sized trucks."
@j.dragon651 explained: "My advice, unless you have the money for repairs or can do it yourself, never buy a car with a turbo."
