A used car expert has lifted the lid on the best month to secure a second-hand used car, with motorists set to enjoy major savings on and vehicles this summer. Matas Buzelis, an automotive market expert at , has warned that a slower buyer market in May and June could help road users secure a bargain.
A study by the motoring group found that June was the slowest month for used car purchases. Just 7.6% of all car history reports on their platform were sold in June, making it the number one least active month of the year. December was next, followed closest by May, meaning road users could secure the best deal within the next two months.

Matas said: "Slower buyer activity in May and June can be attributed to seasonal trends in the automotive market. After winter, interest in car purchases typically rises as buyers look to replace their vehicles.
"However, as summer approaches, activity slows down again, with many people travelling and focusing on outdoor activities over car shopping."
Experts stress that over the summer to make room for new vehicles.
However, in a bid to quickly get rid of older models, dealers to move inventory faster.
Specialists warned waiting a bit longer until the Autumn or Winter could backfire with charges likely to rise.
The most popular month for used car purchases is October, followed by November and September.
Despite this, experts have urged road users to never rush a second-hand used car purchase, regardless of when they dip into the market.
Matas adds: "Car buyers may have more negotiating power and a better chance of securing a cheaper deal in the run-up to the Christmas holidays, as it typically takes longer to sell a vehicle during this period.
"While summer and winter may present the best opportunities for savings, it's still never a good idea to rush into a purchase.
"Buying a used car always comes with some risks, so it's important to do plenty of due diligence, research the car's history, perform a thorough test drive, and have it inspected at an authorised service center before making a decision."
