Emmerdale fans have hit back at ITV script writers after Charity Dingle (played by Emma Atkins) reached new lows to keep her granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) happy in the days after her emergency hysterectomy as a result of cervical cancer. In the past few months, the 20-year-old has shared how desperate she is to become a mother and the operation has also proved to be a devastating blow.
In Monday's (July 14) episode, after hitting a wall with surrogate agencies, Charity looked closer to home and resorted to asking Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) to be Sarah's private surrogate. However, Victoria is completely blindsided by the proposal and overwhelmed wth immense pressure. Although she wants the best for Sarah, she does share understandable hesitation about carrying the baby for her, which fans also agreed with as they took to social media with fury. One commented: "The writers have reached new depths of 'ridiculousness' with this surrogacy storyline & Cain & Charity running around trying to arrange it all-beyond stupid."

A second fan fumed: "wtf?!Charity asking Vic to be Sarah's surrogate with no warning or build-up to it just felt wrong."
As another noted: "I know Cain and Charity are desperate but to go to Aaron and Victoria of all people is kind of insensitive."
"This is the most ridiculous pointless storyline ever, they're trying to give a girl who is supposed to have a short life expectancy a baby.#Emmerdale," a fourth fumed.
While one fed-up viewer said: "The village is full of idiots but asking Victoria to be a surrogate is right up there with the stupidest things ever."
During their conversation, Charity admitted: "I know it's a big ask after everything you've been through, and I hate that I'm even putting it out there. If we weren't desperate." However, before she could finish, Vic interrupted and asked: "Why me?"
She explained: "Because you're family. Sarah can trust you, and we can trust you. I know it sounds mad, and it is mad, but you know the hard part's done.
"Sarah's already had her eggs harvested, Jacob's passed all the tests," which prompted Vic to interject: "Jacob?"
After Charity doubled down and claimed: "That's not set in stone," the chef added: "It's not that I don't feel sorry for Sarah, of course I do.
"But, it's not just her to think about, there's this baby too, who's going to be around for the next however many years, who might have to grow up without a mum. I've been there, I know how that feels," she added.
Trying to convince her, Charity responded, "I can hear what you're saying, but isn't that the same for anyone? Any one of us could go out there tomorrow and get hit by a bus, but that doesn't mean we should stop living our lives."
