A contestant came under fire from viewers after they answered a question incorrectly about a famous detective. During Friday's edition of the quiz show, four new players took to the machine to win a cash prize.
Chris was performing well and managed to accumulate a large jackpot after answering numerous questions right. However, he then suffered an epic blunder when Ben Shephard asked him about the author Ian Rankin.
The popular Scottish crime writer is best known for his Inspector Rebus novels, however Chris was stumped and didn't know the answer.
Explaining that inspectors were not his strong point, he then randomly guessed Sherlock Holmes instead of giving the question a pass. He was then informed that he was incorrect.
Many fans furiously reacted online and couldn't help but comment on the wrong answer. One person said on X: "Sherlock Holmes, give me strength. ."

A second person commented: "Ian Rankin wrote Sherlock Holmes lol...."
A third fans also chimed in: "I really can't believe what I'm hearing." A fourth also penned: "OK, so you may not have known the Ian Rankin answer but 'Sherlock f***ing Holmes'? ."
A fifth also said: "Blimey, I thought Chris was bright, I've changed my mind."
Just a few weeks ago, Tipping Point viewers slammed a contestant over his epic blunder when trying to answer a geography question.
When asked about the capital city of Greece, Malik from Luton answered "Rome" - with many in total shock that he would mess up such a basic question.
One person said on X: "Oh dear. The lack of geographical knowledge nowadays never ceases to amaze and sadden me."
Another similarly commented: "Rome is a Greek city, is it?"
Tipping Point airs on ITV and ITVX at 4pm during weekdays.
